

Roland Ashley Timberlake, Rector Emeritus of St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas died on January 6, 2015 of injuries sustained in a severe fall at his home. Roland was born in Hebbronville, Texas on November 28, 1932 and grew up in Victoria Texas, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Alice Jean Magruder. After attending the University of the South at Sewanee in Tennessee, Roland served as a U.S. Naval Officer and Aircraft Carrier pilot. He graduated from the University of Texas and then returned to Victoria where he owned and managed Timberlake Motors.
In 1969 he was called to serve God in the ordained ministry and moved to Austin to attend The Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. Upon graduation, he served as Associate Rector at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, San Antonio and Rector of St. Christopher's, League City. In 1982 he began a 20 year pastorate as the Rector of St. Luke's on the Lake in Austin. Roland was an honored clergyman and beloved pastor to many.
He was a dearly loved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Jean, and three children, Trent Roland Timberlake, Claire Timberlake, and Gayle Timberlake. He is also survived by treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, 5600 Ranch Road 620 North. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Rio Frio Cemetery in Leakey, Texas.
