Ronnie entered the Austin Fire Department at 20 years old, retiring from Station 17 in 1996 after 26 years of service. He worked his way through the ranks to battalion chief, eventually becoming assistant chief in AFD training division, later choosing to return to his battalion chief position, which he loved the most.
Ronnie was an avid sportsman, jack of all trades, and never met a stranger. He overcame a difficult childhood, and humbly excelled in his profession. However his greatest achievement in life was being a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and husband.
He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Bernice, brother Leslie, and his grandparents, Joe and Mary Roberts and Frank and Selma Werchan.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Valerie Armstrong Roberts and mother-in-law Mary Jo Armstrong, sisters Mary Boatright and husband Johnny, Cecilia Roberts, Gail Gonzales and husband Hymie. He is also survived by his children; son Jeffrey and wife, Jody, daughter Kelli, son Craig and wife Annie, son Scott and wife, Tiffany. The loves of his life were his five grandchildren, Macey, Maria, Miller, Mabry, and Emery. Also holding a special place in Ronnie's heart are aunts Virginia Turner and Verdi Gillespie and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Ronnie's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2014 at Hays Hills Baptist Church located at 1401 N. FM 1626, Buda.
