Roselle M. Girard was born in Austin TX December 5, 1918 and passed away December 17, 2012 at the age of 94. She graduated from Austin High School, and earned both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in geology from the University of Texas. Most of her career as a geologist was spent at the Bureau of Economic Geology at UT where she authored "Texas Rocks and Minerals, an Amateur's Guide". Published first in 1964, it has been a popular guidebook for decades and is currently in its 9th printing. She was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Her grandparents were founding members of St. Martin's Lutheran church where she was a member in her earlier years.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dotson T. Girard and Ella Naumann Girard and brother, Thomas D. Girard. She is survived by nieces Denise Girard and Cheryl Girard Taylor, great-niece Sarah Taylor Garrett and husband Pat, and great-nephew Blake Taylor.
Roselle requested a simple graveside service. It will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive at 2:30 pm Thursday, December 20, 2012.
