November 5, 1928 – January 10, 2023
Roxanne Williamson died in Austin, Texas at age of 94 on January 10, 2023. She was born at the Presidio of Monterey, California in 1928, daughter of Laurence and Ethel Kuter. Roxanne was proud of her parents who were each separately listed in the 1950 Who’s Who, her father as an Air Force general for twenty years and her mother as president of the National Society of Arts and Letters and very active in Air Force Wives events.
Roxanne grew up mostly in Washington, DC. She attended National Cathedral School, Smith College, McGill, and Goucher College. In 1950 she married Robert B. Williamson, and they had three children: Larry, Robin, and Donald. They moved to Austin in 1963 when Bob joined as professor in the College of Business faculty. Roxanne entered graduate school at that time. Her Master’s thesis was published as Austin, Texas: An Architectural History and she was active in the historic preservation movement in Texas, writing more than 60 of the early National Register proposals. She continued graduate courses until she joined the faculty of the School of Architecture as a part time instructor, eventually becoming a full professor with a second book published, American Architects and the Mechanics of Fame. Bob died in 1986 and she retired in 1997 but was pleased to continue giving lectures to the continuing education program, SAGE, for the next twelve years. In 2005 she moved to Westminster Manor.
She leaves her son Laurence Kuter Williamson and his wife Jeanne, daughter Robin Williamson, son Donald Williamson and his wife Lisa, her grandchildren Sharon Bayliss, Ray Eads, and Sam Williamson, and three great grandsons, Britain, Eric, and Theodore. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice or to the University of Texas School of Architecture.
