Roy Lanier Buddy McCuiston Roy Lanier Buddy McCuiston, 81, born March 5, 1923 in Austin passed away September 20, 2004 at home with his family. Buddy graduated from Austin High School and was active in sports. He lettered in football and played the position of wherever they told me to go. After high school he served in the U.S. Army as an engineer in Japan during WWII. He returned to Austin where he met the love of his life, Maria Heflin, on a blind date. He married Maria in 1948 and spent the next 56 years deeply committed to her honoring her as the mother of his children and as the only woman in the world for him. Buddy began his trade as a carpenter and then progressed to becoming one of the best outboard motor mechanics in town. Later he expanded into fiberglass repairs and started his own business Buddys Boat Shop. He was one of the rare self-taught businessmen and had a reputation for being honest, hard working and uncompromising when it came to doing the job right. As a result, the business was continuously successful. On the rare occasion when he wasnt working or learning something new on his computer, he enjoyed boat racing, hunting, fishing, traveling with Maria and friends, and holding family bar-b-ques. He was a practical joker always looking to see who he could get next. Buddys dry sense of humor was known by all and that he could laugh at himself as well. He showed his gentler side with his grand and great-grand children and was always ready to give a ride on his tractor or golf cart. Buddy was fond of his pets, beginning with Prissy and later his adopted strays, especially DC, his kitty cat. Buddy was an active member of the Capitol Rod & Gun Club where he spent many years with his family. He had great times and many fond memories with his CR&GC extended family/friends. Buddy was loved by all who knew him, always ready to help and would give you the shirt off his back without being asked. He is survived by his wife, Maria; children, Pete McCuiston and wife Charlotte, Gayle McCuiston Dailey and husband J.T., Pam McCuiston Russo and husband Leonard, and Ronnie McCuiston; grandchildren, Randy McCuiston, Michelle McCuiston Aston, Brooke and John Dailey, Matt, Daniel, Trent and Trevor Russo; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Autumn, and Colby McCuiston; sisters, Mary Elinor DeBerry and Gwynne Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ethyl and Roy T. McCuiston. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Pallbearers will be Dusty DeBerry, Mark DeBerry, Alex Clark, Pat Dement, Mark Fisher, Pete Testone, George Kizziar, John Wolfe, Ernie Harper and Kenneth Jackson. The family wishes to give special thanks to Austin Hospice, Ann and Jewell of Lifeway Home Health and Rosemary. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N.
