After retiring from his 35-year career as a hematologist at Gunderson Clinic in Lacrosse, WI, he became one of the great pioneers in the emerging field of palliative care in Minneapolis, MN. With his calm and compassionate demeanor, he touched the lives of all under his care. In his free time, Rudy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying skiing, kayaking, biking, and sailing. He also enjoyed singing bass in local productions. He retired from medicine in 2015 and moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters Stephanie and Genevieve; son, Joseph and daughter in-law Christine; and grandson, Aidan.
The funeral service will be held graveside on Sunday at 1 PM at the Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery in the Austin Memorial Garden, 2800 Hancock Dr., Austin, TX. Donations are preferred, in lieu of flowers, for carcinoid cancer research at the Mayo Clinic or the donor's choice of charity.
