Sarah “Ruth” Barnes was born on July 12, 1929 to Thomas Clinton Morris and Fannie Alberta Morris in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the youngest of 5 children. Ruth lived life large, just like any proper Southern Belle would. She never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went.
Ruth had two sons whom she loved dearly, Pete M. Carnes, Jr., and
John Jay Hardage. In 1977, Ruth married her best friend,
F.C. “Carson” Barnes. She retired from the City of Austin Utility Customer Service Office after many years. After her retirement, Ruth enjoyed gardening and was accused by many of having “two green thumbs” when they saw her beautiful garden. The testament to her love of gardening can be seen at the flowerbeds and cemetery of the White Stone Church in Lakeway, where she was a founding member.
Ruth will always be remembered as being the World’s Greatest Advocate for Unconditional Love for not only her family and friends but also for her Lord and Savior.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son Pete M. Carnes, Jr., her parents, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her loving husband Carson Barnes, son John Hardage and his wife Lori, brother Fred Morris, stepchildren Bruce Barnes, Debbie Duval, and Leslie Barnes and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends whom she loved deeply.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8th at 1pm at the White Stone Church, 4101 RR 620 North, Lakeway, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Ruth’s honor.
