Ruth is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years Burney Ehrlich, loving brother, Neil Carter Jr. and wife Mavis, and 3 loving children, Daryl Ehrlich and partner Angie, Elise Ehrlich Matocha and spouse Darrell, Robert Ehrlich and spouse Harue. She also took much pride in her 7 grandchildren, Amber Dickinson, Colton Matocha, Makoto Ehrlich, Jacqueline Ehrlich, Andrew Matocha, Kenji Ehrlich, and Shota Ehrlich as well as countless others who called her Nannie, Auntie Ruth or Grammie Ruth. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ruth was a brilliant seamstress and for many years owned her own upholstery business along with her best friend Dian Litteral. She created an exquisite wedding gown, as well as bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements from scratch for her children and friend’s weddings. Ruth loved animals and took great joy in raising horses. She belonged to the Arabian Horse Club. She also worked for Dr. DesRosiers & Wernecke and Assoc. for a period to assist Pop in getting the kids through the college years. Her final job, and she would say her very favorite, was affectionately caring for her 7 grandchildren for many, many years.
If you asked Ruth, she would say her greatest jobs and joy in life were as loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was the ultimate preschool provider, referee and peacemaker of the family.
Ruth instilled in her children and all those around her to be accepting of others and see the greatness in everyone. She opened her home to those that needed it. She was a gentle, kind, patient and loving soul, and everyone who met her felt her goodness and generosity of spirit.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s name to Hospice Austin.
