

Ruth Black Sellers passed away on August 1, 2006. She was born September 6, 1917 in Myra, West Virginia. She attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia where she met George Sellers. They were married on September 1, 1939. She taught school in West Virginia until her children were born. In 1948 she moved to Orange, Texas with her husband and children. After George retired, the couple moved to Austin, Texas. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church and the North Austin YMCA. Despite having Macular Degeneration, which caused her to be legally blind, she remained a very active and independent person, living alone and walking to the YMCA three times a week to exercise. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and most recently her great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed helping her great-grandchildren learn to garden. She was a person whom all children could confide and trust. Her family was always the most important thing in her life. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband George Sellers, parents Fred and Iva Black, brother Paul Black, and sister Madge England. She is survived by her two children, Diane Sellers Weir & her husband Frank, and James Malcolm Sellers & his wife Kristi; her four grandchildren, Amy Weir & her husband John Hartman, Jennifer Weir & her husband Jack Carter, Shannon Sellers Strahan & her husband Gary, and William Tyson Sellers; and her seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Embry, Eve Carter, Sam Hartman, Kathleen Hartman, Joe Hartman, Will Hartman and Jacob Strahan, her brother Fred Black and sister Marjorie Carney.
