

Ruth was born on May 16, 1922 in Trinway Ohio to parents Samuel Ward Nethers and Leila Elizabeth Johnston Nethers. Ruth was the second oldest of four children and the only girl. After graduating from high school, Ruth enrolled at Miami University where she met her future husband George William “Bill” Weese.
In 1942, Bill graduated from Miami and was drafted into the US Army where he would serve four years including time in Germany with the Signal Corps. Ruth taught school while Bill served his country. After the war, they married on April 27, 1946.
Bill and Ruth owned restaurants & later a laundromat in Indianapolis and Mt. Vernon Ohio. Ruth had a varied career including stints as a teacher, waitress, bookkeeper for a bank, Headstart teacher and finally was employed by the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department in the Parks Division.
Ruth and Bill had two children: David and Ruth Ann.
In her retirement, Ruth was active as a volunteer in her church (Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian of Austin). She was a member, and later president of, the Austin Garden Club. She also volunteered for the South Austin Hospital and Lady Bird’s Wildflower Center. As a special reward, she was invited to tea with Lady Bird in the living room of the LBJ Ranch. Ruth also loved to travel. Her travels took her to Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and Europe along with many trips within the 48 states.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Ward & Leila, her husband Bill and her brothers Kenneth and Wayne.
She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Palm (husband Gary), her son David (wife Kathy), her brother Carl Nethers of Omaha, four grandchildren: Michael Palm (wife April), Steven Palm, Lauren Weese and Douglas Weese (wife Lizbeth Perez Weese), along with two great grandchildren (Nathan and Katelyn Palm, children of Michael & wife April). She is also survived by her nine wonderful nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Ruth at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3701 West Slaughter Lane, Austin TX 78749 at 10:30 am on July 3, 2019. Pastor William Knippa will officiate.
The family would like to thank the staff of Silverado Bee Cave and their Hospice Unit for outstanding care over these past 4 ½ years.
