

Born on February 4, 1943, in Austin, Samuel spent his life in the city he loved. He was the son of Samuel Ellison Payne and Essie Marie Payne, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, E. Marie Moreland.
Samuel attended McCallum High School in Austin. After school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a real estate broker and investor, working for many years in the Austin area. Through dedication, determination, and a strong work ethic, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Samuel was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Payne; his children, Samuel Payne, Johnathan Payne, and Shelbi Gross; and his grandson, Leonard Gross. His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and in the time they spent together.
Samuel will be remembered for his strength of character, his commitment to his family, and the life he built in Austin. His presence, wisdom, and steady spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
