

Samuel Rojer Reese, 66, of Austin was called to be with the Heavenly Father on May 20, 2010. Having battled brain cancer for several months, Sam passed peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela on June 30th 1943 to Owen Edward Reese and Rosalie Spalding Reese. After relocating back to the United States, in 1957 Sam moved to Indiana to attend the prestigious Culver Military Academy where he graduated as an officer in 1961. After high school he moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas. He took a job with the Texas Department of Transportation where he spent 30 years working as a draftsman, before retiring in 2000. During retirement he spent his time working in his yard, watching baseball, walking Austin's malls or Hike and Bike trails, and collecting coins. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious smile, his love of his family, passion for helping others, and his overwhelming generosity. For over 30 years, Sam was a member of St Ignatius Catholic Church. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Owen Edward Reese; mother, Rosalie Spalding Reese; and brother, David Edward Reese. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty; sons, Samuel Rojer Reese and Matthew Thomas Reese; daughter-in-law Rachel Juve Reese; his two sisters, Barbara and Marta Reese; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held Sunday May 23rd at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress at 5:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 24th at 10:00 am at St Ignatius Catholic Church, 126 W Oltorf, with Reverend Michael Couhig CSC officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
