Our beloved daughter, mother, and grandmother ascended into heaven on February 6, 2013.
Sandra "Sandi" Elizabeth Smith Davidson, an 8th generation Texan, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on February 20th, to Douglas W. and Vera Dee Smith.
Sandi spent her childhood in Corpus, Houston, San Antonio, and Shreveport. While in Shreveport, she met her future husband, Louis Lanehart Davidson.
After graduating from All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Sandi became a flight attendant for Braniff International Airlines based in Dallas. Sandi worked as a flight attendant for several years, and then she and Louis married while they both attended LSU in Baton Rouge. After graduation, Sandi and Louis moved to Austin in 1964. A year later their first son, Douglas, was born, and at that time Sandi became a full-time mom. Six years later their second son, William, was born.
Sandi was known by both family and friends to have a very quick wit, an infectious laugh, be incredibly loyal, have a love for traveling, and a great love for animals. She even helped exercise the Olympic equestrian horses at Ft. Sam Houston.
Sandi was an ardent gardener who kept a beautiful garden and yard. Many of the flowers from her garden would fill her house and those of her friends. Sandi was known for taking the plants Home Depot threw away, go pay for them (even though they were trash), and then bring them back to life. She hated to see a plant not be saved. She was starting to teach her 4 ½ year old granddaughter, Sloan, how to garden and loved spending time in the garden with Sloan.
Sandi was also a creative soul, and started a business, Concho Canyon, which brought her great joy and happiness. She said it was an honor to have people buy the products she created.
Sandi's greatest loves were always her children. She would do anything for her boys and she did so without hesitation. From taking Douglas to Taylor's Slue to fish with cane poles and worms they got at Big Bear, to teaching William to jump rope. Both her sons were with her when she passed away, and will always be so thankful and blessed to have had such a loving, caring, and wonderful mom.
Sandi was blessed to have great friends that were as close as family to her. Friends she shared so much joy, laughter, and happiness with. She loved them, and they loved her. Many of those friends were with her when she passed away.
Sandi is survived by her mother, Dee Fox; her son, Douglas Lanehart Davidson and granddaughter, Sloan Douglas Dee Davidson, son; William Louis Davidson; brother, Douglas W. Smith and wife, Sally Ann; niece, Martita Smith Fleming and husband Colin D, great nephew Conall Douglas; her two dogs, Cassie and Zoe; and cat, Abigail. She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis L. Davidson; father, Douglas W. Smith and nephew, Douglas W. Smith III.
Sandi was an active member of the Assistance League of Austin, and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you.
If you remember me with tears and sadness, don't remember me."- Sandi.
