Sandra Price Perkins (Sandy) was born on August 12, 1946 in Springfield, Missouri to loving parents Thelma and Eldon. Sandy passed away January 16th, 2026 at Christopher House surrounded by family and friends. She fought a valiant and courageous battle with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, a grim diagnosis she was given four years ago in December 2021 and given three to six months to live. In true Sandy fashion, that was not the timeline she approved or accepted. Sandy’s determination and desire to live gave her four more years, while challenging, she didn’t miss a thing. She attending a family reunion, celebrated 4 more wedding anniversaries with the love of her life John, attended graduations, football games, grand openings, trips with friends, lunches, dinners, events and birthday parties with everyone she held dear.
Serving others was second nature, Sandy was highly active in the Austin community for more than 45 years. Volunteering and chairing for philanthropic organizations was her life. The Austin Junior Forum- Caswell House, chairing fundraisers for The Wild Basin, Texas Youth Ranch, Austin Symphony League, Ballet Austin, events at the Long Center, Center for Child Protection, New Milestones Foundation, The Settlement Club (she loved volunteering at the annual garage sale) and the Austin Women’s Club. She was in numerous friend groups, “The BS’ers” – Bible Study, Book groups and many others, she cherished her many dear relationships and was always meeting and gathering new friends in her atmosphere.
Sandy created an event company: Austin Social Planning and it was a natural fit for her love of entertaining. She coordinated weddings (more than 200), events, celebrations and anything else that needed a Sandy planning touch. She cherished being a part of these special moments in other people’s lives.
Sandy was always thinking of others, she loved entertaining, hosting friends and baking. Her biscuits, cakes, chocolate chip cookies and Christmas cookies were a staple for giving to friends, teachers, coaches, delivery people and anyone else she wanted to give a little joy to. She felt immense pride doting on others and her favorite saying was “Those who give have all things.”
Sandy’s parents moved the family to Lockhart, Texas when she was only a baby, where her family continues to have deep ties to this day. Her junior year of high school her family moved to Austin where she graduated from McCallum High School in 1964, that move proved formative on being new and making friends fast. Sandy met John Perkins in 1966 at a lake party hosted at the very house where they have lived for the last 30 years. They were engaged only six weeks after they met and married three months later December 3rd, 1966. Their nearly 60-year marriage was endearing to all who know them and loved them. John became a co-host to friends and family for decades at the lake, seeing the joy it brought her was a testament to his love.
Sandy will be dearly missed by her lifelong love John, her children; Daughter Kelly Perkins, son Michael Perkins, daughter in law Leslie, grandchildren: Nicholas Rigas, Morgan Rigas and Ellison Rigas of Dallas, Everett Perkins and Peyton Perkins of Austin. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, always immersing herself in keeping up with the details of their lives and activities. Sandy is survived by her brother Brent Price and wife Beverly of Pasadena, California, sister Cheryl Pany and husband David of Temple, Texas, nieces and nephews Bart Pany and wife Jessica (Garrett, Meghan and Faith), Brett Pany and wife Amy (Cooper and Finley). Niece Brittany Kostenko and her husband Alex. Sandy was predeceased by her parents Thelma and Eldon Price.
A Celebration of Life is planned for February 10th from 3-5pm at Austin Country Club. Where we will do one last event to celebrate her remarkable life and the memory and legacy she leaves behind in all those whose lives she touched in big or small ways.
