1949-2014
Sarah Nancy Key passed away on September 5, 2014, ending a nine-month struggle with lung cancer in a non¬-smoker, which she faced with true grit.
The daughter of S. N. Key, Jr., M.D. and Doris J. Key, Sarah was born at the old Seton Hospital in Austin on May 13, 1949. She attended Austin public schools from Dill School through McCallum High School. She graduated from Scripps College, Claremont, California, with a BA degree, and from St. Edward's University in Austin with an MBA. After serving a director of the women's dormitory at Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, she became Associate to the Director, Division of Housing and Food Service, The University of Texas at Austin. During her thirty-seven years serving the University, she was pleased to know and collaborate with so many interesting, dedicated persons from many departments and areas of University life, as well as those from organizations for which she arranged conferences and camps at the University. She enjoyed seeing former student employees of Housing and Food Service, when they returned to report successful careers.
Sarah's passing follows that of her father and of her grandparents, S. N . Key, Jr., M.D. and May R. Key of Austin, Ralph F. Jones and Lena Jones of Osceola, Iowa. Left to hold "the faith that looks through death" are her mother and her brother, Sam N. Key, III, M.D.
She and her family wish to thank her colleagues at UT and Housing and Food Service for their loving support, her church family at Tarrytown UMC, the many who offered their prayers during her illness, her physicians, nurses and other caring professionals.
Graveside services will be private. In Lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so are asked to contribute to Hospice Austin or their chosen charity.
