Shirley Dix Leydecker, passed on from her life on April 23, 2024 in Austin, Texas and left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. She was born on March 20, 1937 in Danville, Virginia to Annie and George Dix.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Raymond Leydecker, Sr., her children Ramona Callia, Raymond Leydecker, Jr., and Rhonda Allen and her grandchildren Remi Lacour, Kristian and his wife Misa Mascovich, Matthew and Sarah Callia, Derek Allen, and Rylan Leydecker, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly.
Shirley, known to her family as “Granny,” loved her family deeply and was the heart and soul of the family. As a dedicated homemaker, she brought both warmth and artistic flair to the family home, while her love for gardening and animals reflected her nurturing nature. She generously contributed her time and talents to school, church, and community groups, demonstrating unwavering strength, organization and resourcefulness. Shirley’s playful demeanor and contagious laughter inspired joy through music, dance, meaningful conversations and shared meals with family and friends.
She was preceded in death and has been reunited with her siblings Louise Perry, George Dix, Dorothy Garcia, Bonnie DeMarco, Edward Dix and her parents Annie and George Dix.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Shirley’s Celebration of Life service to be held on May 18, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Cornerstone Sanctuary at Bethany United Methodist Church (BUMC), 10010 Anderson Mill Road in Austin, TX 78750. There will be an intimate gathering following the service in the BUMC Cove.
Shirley’s final resting place will be in the peaceful shade of the beautiful live oak trees of the Bethel Prayer Garden at Bethany United Methodist Church.
