Shirley Jean Moore Zimmerman, age 70, of Austin passed away Thursday night, May 18, 2006. She was an avid angler, a dedicated member of the business community, a beloved church member, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was born on August 4, 1935 in Abilene, Texas and was preceded in death by the love of her life, Julian H. Zimmerman, who died in 2001. Over the years, Shirley was a leader in various companies, including the Lumbermans Investment Corporation, Equity Investors, Inc., Read & Company General Agency, Borland Investment, and the Texas Dept. of Commerce. She was also a lifetime member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce and a Deacon in her church. Her real loves were fly fishing and family. She was able to combine the two during her cherished yearly trips to her cabin in Pearl Lakes, Colorado. She valued the serenity of the fog settling over the water during quiet summer mornings and the laughter of friends and family who came to visit. It was her home away from home. After she retired in 1997, Shirley spent much of her time at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin. The congregation was her extended family, and she treated them with the same devotion and love as she did her own children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her children: a daughter, Deborah Jean Cearley/Wiruscheske and her husband Carl; a son, Robert Van Cearley and his wife Lesa; a stepdaughter, Jana Zimmerman Dawson; grandchildren: Jennifer, Jared, Andy, Garrett, Hunter, Kate, Julie; and a special friend, Joel. Shirley was deeply loved by her family and friends and will truly be missed by those she leaves behind. Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar on Tuesday, May 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition, on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
