

Silvia attended Austin High School and UT Austin where she majored in ballet and art and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.
In 1951, August 3rd she married the handsome neighborhood boy, Thomason Charles Eklund. The couple moved to Sunset Valley- a small community south of Austin to raise their family. Silvia supported her children’s activities from Boy Scout den and little league mom, band and drill team booster to starting an equestrian competition team.
She helped her husband create his own construction business and bought and managed various properties in the hill country. In retirement, they built the Circle E ranch in Spicewood, Texas to run purebred cattle.
When Tommy died, Silvia started a new life moving to Waxahachie, Texas helping with the grandchildren, volunteering and traveling all over the world with her Austin girlfriends.
During life’s journey, Silvia served as a Sunset Valley volunteer firefighter, an officer for Austin Garden Club and was a member of the Lost Creek Golf Club. She volunteered for the Ellis County Museum, joined the Waxahachie YMCA was an officer for the Waxahachie Friday Book Club, supported a local radio station and sponsored the Waxahachie Symphony.
Silvia was predeceased by her sister Joy and brother Patrick; her husband, Tommy and son Thomason (Thom) Eklund.
Survivors include: Ann Eklund Phillips and son in law Jim. Grandchildren Nicholas Eklund, William Phillips and husband Morgan, Jillian Phillips Detwiler and husband Alex and great grandchildren Beau, Campbell Cate, May Mills Detwiler and the cat, Inky.
Silvia was beautiful, creative, funny and resilient. She loved books, good friends, current events, classical music, shoes, stars and chocolate. She never met a cat she didn’t like and wished she could have been an astronaut. Silvia died in North Texas, but she finally made it back to her beloved Austin. She will be missed.
