

Stephen J. Bridgewater, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, to Robert L. Bridgewater and Mary Myers Bridgewater, Steve spent his early years in Abilene, Texas, where he graduated high school before embarking on a life of service and dedication.
Following high school, Steve joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War. His time in the military deeply shaped his character and values, leaving an indelible mark on his life. After his honorable service, Steve continued to protect and serve as a police officer in Austin, Texas, for 15 years. Upon retiring from law enforcement, he remained dedicated to safety and security through his work in the private security sector.
A lifelong member of VFW Post 8925 Pilot Knob and the Marine Corps League Centex Detachment, Steve was a steadfast presence among his fellow veterans. His commitment to brotherhood, camaraderie, and service extended far beyond his professional years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary, and his brother, Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Roxann; his son Robert (Wife Tammy) daughters, Michelle Nicholson (husband David) and Tiffany Anderson (husband Dameon); his brother, Jeffrey; and his sister, Robin. Steve was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of strength and resilience.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Steve's Marine brothers Pete Melgar, Hal Wright, and Deb Wright for their unwavering support and companionship during his illness.
A burial service with full military honors will take place on January 17, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd San Antonio, Texas 78209 .
To celebrate Steve’s remarkable life, a gathering will be held on what would have been his 79th birthday, January 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM, at VFW Post 8925 Pilot Knob, located on 8706 FM 812 in Austin, Texas 78719. Friends, family, and comrades are invited to share stories, photos, and memories. A meal will be served, and attendees are kindly asked to bring a dish to share.
Steve’s unwavering dedication to his family, country, and community will forever remain an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered
