Stephen was born in Chicago, Illinois to William and Silva Mueller. He is survived by his mother and two siblings Susan and Douglas. After she won him over turning the pages while he played the organ at University Lutheran Church Austin, he married Ruth Becker Mueller in 1969. They spent 43 years of marriage together enjoying time with family and sharing their love of travel. Steve is survived by his wife and their two children, his son James Mueller (37), daughter-in-law April, and grandchildren Isaiah, Ivy, Vienne, and Leo, and his daughter Jennifer Mueller (34) and granddaughter Alexandra.
Steve graduated from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Accounting. Following his academic training, he began his career with Deloitte & Touche LLP in Houston as a Senior Auditor. Subsequently, he was Vice President and Controller of Bado Equipment Co., Inc. in Houston. He retired in 2006 as Vice President & Treasurer of Encysive Pharmaceuticals Inc., after 15 years of service that encompassed the start-up of the Company.
As a child, Steve was a proud Eagle Scout. He received many honors including the Pro Deo et Patria award. Steve also had a great love of music. He was a member of the Organist's Guild and played for numerous churches in the Houston and Austin area, and loved to play organs in various places around the world. Steve also loved to spend his free time visiting wineries with his wife, biking with his granddaughter, exploring area restaurants with his wife and sister, traveling, and learning about new technology. Whether it was typing faster than any of his secretaries, showing up early and leaving late, or fixing ANYTHING that needed fixing, Steve is remembered by all as a gifted and talented father and friend.
