Born on March 15, 1953 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Ezra and Lilla Ramsey, Steve spent his childhood living in various cities across Texas. Starting from a young age, he always had a strong work ethic, spending his summers in Nacogdoches bailing hay with his brother and later working in a Boys Camp in Kerrville. But Steve found his true home in Beeville, where he surrounded himself with good people who would become lifelong friends. He played baseball in his youth and later played football as a Trojan for Beeville High School, where he graduated in 1971 and was deemed “Most Likely to Succeed.”
Steve started college at Texas Lutheran College (now known as TLU) where he was a member of the Omega Tau fraternity, before transferring to Texas A&M and then finally to The University of Texas in Austin, where he would graduate with Honors and a degree in Civil Engineering in 1976. From then on, he was a lifelong Longhorns fan. Steve had a successful 47 year career and ran his own company, Ramsey Engineering, for 13 years. During his time in college, he continued to touch lives and make strong connections that would last a lifetime. He worked as a counselor at the Texas Lions Camp, a camp empowering disabled children. It was here that he met friends who ultimately introduced Steve to the love of his life.
Steve married his soulmate, Kitty Brittain, in Fredericksburg, TX on September 8, 1979. He was the most loving and supportive husband, and he gave his wife a life filled with love, admiration, and happiness. Steve and Kitty created a beautiful family with son, Matthew, and daughter, Katie. He was an incredible father that was “everyone’s Dad” because he genuinely loved all of his children’s friends, and they loved him. Steve created a home that was filled with love and laughter, so everyone in the family and in the neighborhood wanted to be there. Steve was a beloved uncle and enjoyed spending time with all of his nieces and nephews. He was a selfless man that would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it, and never hesitated to help those in need. His kindness and compassion were limitless and everyone that met him and knew him, loved him like family. Stephen was one of those select few people in this world that had the ability to truly inspire those around them to live a life of integrity. He always chose to do the right thing, and he made those around him want to do the same. He was a true legend and he will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
Stephen Allan Ramsey is survived by his wife, Kitty; son, Matthew; daughter, Katie; grandchildren, Evan and Jaxson; brother, Terry, and sister, Marsha, and their families.
