

Sue Meischen, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus Christ, Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born November 17, 1928, in Aransas Pass, TX, Sue relished life in her coastal community. After graduating from Aransas Pass High School, she attended Texas A&I where she met and married WWII veteran, Wilbert H. Meischen. They began their married life in Raymondville, TX, where they had two sons, Herbert and Scott. The family moved to Austin, TX in 1965.
She enjoyed a long career at the Texas State Capitol, working for a variety of State representatives and senators, where she brought a positive attitude and energetic spirit to all aspects of her work. Her final position with the state was in the office of Jim Pitts, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Upon her retirement, Sue pursued her passion in the Austin arts scene, participating as an extra in a variety of film projects shot in Austin, including an onscreen appearance in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She volunteered as an usher at the many theatrical and public venues in Austin including the Bass Concert Hall, Paramount Theater, The Long Center, Zach Theater and the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Among her many awards for volunteer service, in 2001 Sue was awarded the first Bill Connelly Outstanding Service Award from her favorite, the Paramount Theater, and recognized for her many years of community service by the Texas House of Representatives.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert H. Meischen, her brother, Wayne Dill, her sister, Betty Greene, and half-brother Jim Dill. She will be remembered by her sons and their wives; Herb and Shari Meischen and Scott and Debbie Meischen; six grandchildren, Emily, Michael, Jonathan, Katie, Krystal, and Justin; and one great-grandchild, Makenzie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paramount Theater in Sue's memory.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar in Austin. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014.
