Susan was born to Gilbert and Ruth Reed in Alexandria, Louisiana. Susan traveled extensively in her youth. She met her future husband Ruben Garcia in Wurzburg Germany. They were married November 4, 1960. Her many travels continued through her marriage, but she finally became an Austinite in 1990, where she was employed at Austin Vision Associates.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben. Susan is survived by daughter, Dr. Cynthia Burlingame and husband Jay, of Overland Park, Kansas; her son, Greg Garcia and wife Jessica of Buda, Texas; and daughter, Dr. Donna "Lisa" Shepard and husband Steven "Kelly" of Austin, Texas; her sister, Donna Reed of Alexandria, Virginia; and brother Richard Reed of Alexandria,Virginia.
"Mimi" is also survived by her beloved grandchildren David and Morgan Burlingame, and Caleigh, Camryn, and Regan Shepard.
