Suzanne Duke Brown

Suzanne Duke Brown passed away in the presence of her family on 1/4/13. She lived a long, loving, and fruitful life. Her warmth, kindness and calm demeanor touched everyone who knew her. She will be sorely missed.

Suzanne was born on 1/24/31 in Rockford, Illinois but grew up in Bethany, Missouri with her parents Merton and Cleatus Duke and her brother Robert. She attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri where she met Robert D. Brown. They were married on August 30 1951 in Bethany, Missouri as Bob was entering seminary in Dallas, Texas. Suzanne later completed both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Medical Records Administration at Texas Woman's University, where she was on the faculty, and spent her professional life as a medical records department director and educator of medical records professionals.

She was a dedicated and lifelong Methodist, active in every church she attended. She was also a longtime sister in PEO and dedicated much energy and love to that organization.

Suzanne had three sons. Her oldest, Craig, preceded her in death in 2001 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her loving husband, Robert, survives her, as well as sons David and Mark, daughters-in-law, Jena and Ari, and grandchildren Kyle, Jason, Andy, and Julia. Suzanne loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly. We will miss you Mamaw.

Memorial services will be held in Austin at the Tarrytown United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 8 at 7:00PM in the sanctuary. There will also be a memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, Missouri on Thursday, January 10 at 11.00AM. A private family burial service at Floral Hills in Kansas City, Missouri follows the service at Christ UMC.

She was a giving, positive, and adoring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Suzanne was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a longtime member of the Journeymen's Class at Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, Missouri. She expressed special thanks to the Swift Sunday school class at TUMC for their love and support during her time in Austin. She also wanted to thank AseraCare Hospice - Austin, in particular Roxie, Geneva, and Yvonne, for the gracious and special care they provided her during her last days.

In lieu of flowers, Suzanne requested donations to the Robert Craig Brown Memorial Scholarship, Central Methodist University, 411 Central Methodist Square, Fayette, Missouri, 65248.
