Talmadge “Steps” Stepura, 77, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, a little after midnight. Born on September 23, 1946, Steps lived a life full of dedication, service, and generosity.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Steps served his country with honor and commitment through nine campaigns during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he continued to serve his community as a devoted employee of the United States Postal Service, where he touched the lives of many with his warmth and reliability.
Steps’ life was rich with love and laughter. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Reiko, his two beloved sons, Thomas Alan and Steven Michael, their respective wives Kelly and Edie, and his two grandchildren, Justin and Jessica. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he was a pillar of strength and support to them throughout his life. He was especially proud that each of his sons followed in his footsteps, one joining the Navy and the other joining the United States Postal Service.
Steps was known for his deep love of Hank Williams Sr. and his fondness for a cold beer, which he enjoyed right up until his passing, surrounded by his loving family and friends. His spirited personality, clever witticisms and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (https://www.ihelpveterans.org/) in Steps’ honor.
Steps’ legacy of service, love, and joy will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
"Eternal rest, do grant them oh Lord… and let your guiding light always shine on them oh so bright!
Eternal father… strong to save… whose arms doeth bound the restless and mighty waves.
Go to sleep now oh restless sailor… for the seas you protect are at ease now.
God speed to you when your sails are wind-full once again!!
For the home port you have left… will await your return with rejoicing hearts and open arms…"
