

Terry attended high school in Timpson, Texas, and later earned his Bachelors of Criminal Justice from Abilene Christian University. He served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, joining at the age of 17, saw two terms in Vietnam. After his active service, Terry continued serving in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1964 to 1972. He earned his nursing degree after his honorable discharge from the Navy and worked several years at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He later worked at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas where he met his wife to be, Patricia Rodrigues. Terry and Patricia “Pat” were married October 29, 1966 in Nacogdoches, Texas, then moved to Galveston, Texas, where he began his career as a police officer for Texas City Police Department. He later served on the Plano, Texas, Police Department and in total had 25 years of public service in this role. Terry was a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners of North America. Terry was a Methodist and loved to read his bible.
In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by a brother Jerry Ernest Harris. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Pat (Rodrigues) Harris, are his son, Terry M. Harris, Jr. and his wife Dijana, of Liberty Hill, Texas; a daughter, Darla Weatherly and her husband, Pepper Weatherly, of Clovis, New Mexico; one grandchild, Addison Harris of Liberty Hill, Texas; two brothers, Regie Harris of Hawaii, Loye Gau of Kansas, one sister, Betty Trahan of Louisiana.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at Cook-Walden funeral home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas. Burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Liberty Hill, Texas.
