The Very Reverend Father James Duncan Kenna died suddenly in a car accident on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Fr. James was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 12, 1934 and moved to Florida in 1972 and Texas in 1979. He was a priest and pastor to the congregations at St. Philip Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 8 years, St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church in downtown Austin for 25 years, and St. Sophia Antiochian Orthodox Church in Dripping Springs, TX for the last 7 years. He also created several other Orthodox missions or churches and was President of Dripping Springs Lions Club for a number of years. James was a friend and companion to his wife Anne for 51 years. Fr. James was a Father to many in his dual roles of counselor and spiritual advisor but he was Dad to Siobhan, Gabhan, Siusaidh Fiona, Eoin and known as Papu to his three wonderful grandchildren. His loss is deeply mourned and he will truly be missed by his family, friends, and community. Funeral services will be presided over by Bishop Basil on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at St. Sophia Antiochian Orthodox Church. The Divine Liturgy will begin at 10 am and be followed immediately by the funeral service. The interment service will be privately held at the Onion Creek Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Sophia Antiochian Orthodox Church.
