

Tom Bergstrom died on December 18, 2021 of lung cancer at age 76. Tom was born to Oscar and Gladys Bergstrom in 1945 and grew up on a farm in Merrilltown, near Round Rock, Texas. During his youth, Tom was proud to become an Eagle Scout.
After graduating from Round Rock High School in 1962, he attended Texas State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and earned a degree in Business Administration. Tom also entered the Army Reserves stationed in Austin and then in Fort Polk, Louisiana and served as a reservist for seven years.
After college, Tom began his career in banking at Capitol National Bank where he worked for ten years. He later purchased a vending, drink and food service company and operated that business as the Tom Bergstrom Company for thirty years. His business was selected as the nation’s top vending company in 2005 and 2006.
Tom was an active community member throughout his life and served as President of the Austin Jaycees, President of the Austin Aqua Festival, President of the Austin Woods and Waters Club, Rotarian member and volunteer board member at the Austin YMCA.
During retirement, Tom spent time between his home in Austin and his hill country ranch on the Pedernales between Johnson City and Fredericksburg where he loved caring for the land and the animals. During this time, he also became involved with the Winston Churchill Society and Theodore Roosevelt Associations and attended their meetings around the country.
Some of Tom’s pastimes include spending time with his extensive community of friends and family, travel, fishing and time with his dog. Some of his more recent travels include trips to England and France, Russia, Kenya and Tanzania. He also took annual fishing trips to Canada with his lifelong best friends from grade school.
Tom and his daughter, Amanda, always maintained a close relationship. Tom often visited Amanda while she attended college in Maine and also while she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Central America. They share countless father-daughter adventures.
One of Tom’s most notable qualities was service to others. He is known for being a kind, funny and considerate friend and community member. He took every opportunity to step up when needed and to make a difference wherever called for.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Amanda Bergstrom and his dog, Doodle. He is predeceased by his wife, Teri Bergstrom. Tom’s extended family includes his mother-in-law, Sara Whitfield; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Alicia Whitfield; brother-in-law, Rody Whitfield; nieces and nephews, Jordan and Brianna Whitfield, Caitlin Spradley, Holden, Laszlo and Sunny Whitfield.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731. A Friends and Family gathering will follow.
