
I haven't seen Tom for over 30 years ... but he never left my heart.  I am grateful that he found me on Facebook and called me on my 54th birthday last December. 

Tom and I were best friends... We washed laundry together, ran together, went to Ruby's under the Perkins Road overpass together, met at Magoo's and the Rail, etc., etc.  Memories of our adventures make me feel good about life on the planet.  They were golden times.  

Does anyone else remember Tom's experiements with microwave ovens when they first came out?  

Rest in peace, Tom.

I have known Tom and he has been one of my best friends since 1970 at LSU.  He was a great friend and a truly amazing person.  One of the most brilliant people I have ever known.  We were roommates back in the day, and had a lot of good times together.  I will always remember them.

I only just now learned of Tom's untimely passing of Planet Earth.  My condolences go out to you Laura and your lovely daughter Alison.

I just moved back to Austin and a couple of days ago Tom popped into my head and a vision of him on Lake Travis with that wide grin and the sail boat leaning sideways gliding through the water.

I am very heart-broken to hear about the unfortunate loss of Tom. I was just emailing with him this Friday inviting you all to join me at my birthday. Tom was one of the most intelligent and creative people I have ever met in my life. As an engineer and designer he always came up with some original creative solution to the most complex issue. As a friend he had a great sense of humor and was able to see right to the truth in people and situations and was not afraid to let you know his opinion. I met Tom over 20 years ago and we enjoyed keeping in contact off and on by using the â€œunannounced visitâ€ approach of just showing up at each otherâ€™s house. We had great times with him on the sailboat watching him navigate masterfully around Lake Travis as well as in the garage checking out his latest woodworking project, invention or oscilloscope repair business. Let Claudia and I know if there is anything we can do for you in this difficult time and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.




I always enjoyed working with Tom at Wayne Dresser. Even though it has been many years since we both worked there, I have fond memories of Tom. He always had a joke to tell. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.



I feel that I've known Tom for decades, though its only been a few years.  While he could be contrary at times, Tom was also caring, brilliant, had a hilarious (and accurate) perspective on most things, and always tried to do the best he could.

I miss him.



Although it has been many years since I worked with Tom, I still have fond memories of him.  My best wishes to his family and friends.



LIfe seemed easy, hanging with Tom, whether it was finding the best hamburgers at Raggedy Anne's or letting his sailboat steer itself while we were towed behind.  Still,  when I had a professional question or consultation he was always a top notch  and informed colleague.  Goodbye Tom.



I was so stunned to hear about Tom.  It had been quite a few years since we had seen each other yet so many memories of  working together at Geotronics  and all the
good times come streaming back.  Tom was an impressive engineer - ingenious & clever, totally capable - a tremendous asset to any group.  He was danced to his own drum.   He had that grinning look in his eyes and a characteristic laugh that was uniquely Tom and the way he found and saw humor in the world.  I valued his friendship and learned so much from him.

Good bye, old friend - it will take some time to comprehend this.  Rest in peace.

I'm still in shock from the news of your loss.

I remember Tom arriving at my house to attend Phil's birthday party, no shoes, shorts and no shirt! It must have been hot that day. 

I also remember our little dinner parties together, and especially the dinner conversations. So animated, interesting and unforgetful.

My heart hangs heavy knowing how difficult this must be for you to grasp.

I know Phil will send his own memories but I want to share with you how much knowing Tom and you both has meant to me personally. I knew the first time we came to  your home and he shared with us his favorite album, The Uranium Savages, that I found a kindred spirit. Listening to that album showed us just how deep and entertaining his sense of humor and intelligence was. I was amazed at his gifted wood workmanship and used every occasion I could to get help for my decrepit furniture. We will all miss him, barefoot and shirt-tails all. We are so sorry for your loss. 



Tom was always a breath of fresh air when we worked at Geotronics. I will miss him.



Your loved one has left behind a thousand moments that will live in your heart forever... Please know, at this difficult time, that you are in so many thoughts and prayers. Laurie and Allison,
I can hardly accept the sad loss of Tom and I know this must be so sad for you both.  You and the rest of Tom's family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Tom was an inspiration to me in that he was so smart and talented as an engineer.  He also taught me to sail some 27 years ago.  Tom cared deeply about things, and although cynical at times, seemed to have such a strong sense of people.

I haven't seen Tom for quite a few years now, but his passing is a great loss to us all.

Thinking about Laurie and Allison and hoping you feel buoyed by all those around you. You and the rest of Tom's family will be in my thoughts and prayers over the coming months. I'm so sorry we no longer have Tom amongst us.



Tom, Laurie, and Alison were our next door neighbors for over 10 years in Austin. 

I remember on Sunday mornings, as my wife, Dianne and I drank coffee in the backyard, Tom's partially obscured face would pop up over the privacy fence, like 'Wilson' on Home Improvement, and he'd offer some wry observation on the day... or we'd stand in his garage and talk about his latest project - whether it was a house project or building a new computer system out of what looked - to me- like used auto parts from Tom and Laurie's look-alike Dodge Minivans.

We lived on a cul de sac and his open garage was a window on the world of our small piece of Austin. 

Tom was a genuine and genuinely interesting person and, even though I only saw him sporadically on occasional visits back to Austin, I sit here missing him greatly.

The thoughts and prayers of the entire Sly family are with Laurie and Alison.

It is very hard for me to accept the passing of my good pal Tom.  For many years, he has been a good friend and a respected colleague.  Tom was a uniquely talented and interesting person who never ceased to amaze me with his abilities.  He was, with no doubt, among the very few 'top notch' electrical engineers that I have ever known and have had the pleasure to work with.  He will be sadly missed.  

My heart and my best wishes go to Laura and Alison, two more very impressive people.  They will use the strength that I already know they have to get through this sad time.
