Thomas P. Washburn, 90, of Austin, Texas, died Tuesday morning, November 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the former Miyo Nakamoto, whom he met while serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. They were married on October 1, 1961 in Okinawa, Japan. Born July 14, 1931 near Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Mildred (Budwell) Washburn.
After his retirement from a career in the Air Force, he earned a degree in Social Work at St. Edwards University. He worked as a security guard until his 70s.
Thomas was a Christian. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family will forever miss him.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Miyo, step-son, Chokei Kiyuna, former daughter-in-law, Tomiko, son, Michael Washburn and wife Sherri; six grandchildren: Tom Kiyuna, Chosei Kiyuna, Choken Kiyuna, Nathan Washburn, James Washburn, and Choko Kiyuna; and one great grandson: Daniel Kiyuna.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles Junior, Joe, and Butch; and one sister: Rosemary Washburn.
