She was born on September 8, 1928, in Mineral Wells, Texas and lived a life full of love for Ollie, her husband of 68 years, her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie; daughter Sheri; daughter-in-law Terri; and great granddaughter Makenna.
Tommye loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports or dance, proudly wearing their team t-shirts. She was a Texas Longhorn, Atlanta Braves, and Houston Astros fan and spent many an evening watching college or professional baseball games.
She was hard working and earnest in all that she did. After attending high school in Laredo, Texas, Tommye was a telephone operator for several years before marrying Ollie. They transferred and moved several times during his service in the Army and then moved to Austin in 1955. Over the years, as their family grew, Tommye worked in several positions, always in a role that helped or cared for others. Her longest position was working in the tax office at the Leander Independent School District for 16 years before retiring and finishing her professional career at the Teacher Retirement System. Her hobbies included gardening, painting, cooking and playing the piano.
Over the years, she treasured her trips and family reunions with her four sisters and their families. Tommye, Joann, Margie, Faye and Ruth would spend hours sitting outside under the oak trees laughing and telling stories from past vacations and family events.
She and Ollie were active members of the Promenaders square dancing group for 30 years where they developed friendships that would last their lifetimes. They were members of St. John’s United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
Services will be Friday, January 31, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2140 Allandale Road, Austin. A gathering with the family begins at 10 a.m. and the service begins at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the ceremony at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, and for those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Tommye’s memory, please make donations to St. John’s United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
