Verline Elizabeth"Betty"Nanny" Goergen was born in Pontotoc, Texas in Mason County on October 30, 1915 and passed away on February 4, 2015 in Round Rock, Texas at the youthful age of 99. She has gone home to be with the Lord that she served so well here on earth.
To celebrate Betty's life is the only proper way to say goodbye to this faithful woman, best described as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a builder of homes, a plant whisperer with two green thumbs and a one of a kind character with character.
Betty had lots of interests and hobbies; gardening, quilting, sewing, fishing, doll collecting, and antiques. She loved to eat her ice cream, barbecue, Red Lobster, Tex-mex, piña coladas, coffee and hot chocolate.
If you need to shed a tear do so with a light heart. To think of her with sadness is not what she would have wanted, she would have wanted you to remember her smile, her laugh, her garden, and her Christmas lights.
We know that as we gather to say our fairwells, she is in heaven with her mother and father, sister Hoot, J.T. , Janie, Star, Highline, Delilaha, Cuddles and Mama Kitty watching the Wheel of Fortune, and checking the schedule to see if her beloved Texas Rangers are playing ball.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Henry and Myrtle Holloway, an infant brother that died at birth, her sister Lenny Holloway, her sister and brother in law John Thomas "J.T." and Velma "Hoot" Gibbs, her brother Kenny Coke Holloway, and her niece Verna Janie Eads.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Victoria and Rick Branning of Round Rock, Texas, Anna and Alexis Bedos of Riverside, Connecticut; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Rick Dean and Carrissa Branning of Pflugerville, Texas, August Sky and Michael Tessari of Houston, Texas, Bailey Elizabeth and David Wright of Pflugerville, Texas, Natassya Marie Bedos of Boston, Massachusetts, Christina Marie Bedos of Stamford, Connecticut Alexis Thomas Bedos of Northfield, Vermont and Julia Marie Bedos of Storrs, Connecticut; three and a half great grandchildren, Emily Faye Branning of Pflugerville, Texas, Elise Mae Wright of Pflugerville, Texas, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Christine Tessari of Houston Texas, and due in June, Lucille "Lucy" Ann Wright of Pflugerville, Texas. "NANNY"
October thirtieth must have been a scene,
The Holloway clan wondering what the stork might bring.
The stork found the house on that blessed day,
Delivering a baby girl, Verline was her name.
She grew up in a hard ranch style life,
One sister named Velma, to talk to at night.
The girls were so young and oh so cute,
One with the nickname of Betty, and her sister named Hoot.
Betty graduated from high school in the year of thirty three,
Left home in thirty four, to see what the world may bring.
Employed at a store and completing business class,
In forty one she built airplanes to help the military attack,
At thirty with no more planes to build,
She worked at WOAI radio, man what a thrill.
In fifty seven, her world changed forever,
Her first girl brought to her from heaven.
In sixty, her next baby would arrive,
Heaven gave her a second girl, what a great life,
In sixty two, no knowing what to do,
Started building houses, without a single clue,
She worked hard and created a name,
Still building houses when the first Grandbaby came.
Eighty two was the year, when hope became high,
She was small and round, her name was Sky.
Little Ricky came along, as part of a marriage,
No matter to Nanny if he was inherited.
Eighty seven & Eighty eight there was no time to be bored,
Bailey, Natassya and Christina were born.
In ninety two, Nanny was blessed a ton,
Little Alexie was born, another grandson.
Ninety five was the year she started to swirl,
A new baby named Julia, the youngest grand girl,
Two thousand and one was a year that was wild,
Emily came along, Nanny's first great grandchild.
In two thousand and twelve, the next great grandchild arrived,
Elise May met her Nanny for the very first time.
Two thousand and fourteen, in July of that year
Lizzy, great grand girl number three, came in with a cheer.
In February of Two thousand and fifteen, we lost this gal that we loved,
We know she will watch over great Grandbaby Lucy when she is born in June, from high up above.
In case you are wondering and the count is unclear,
That is two daughters, two son in laws, five granddaughters,
two grandsons, one granddaughter in law,
two grandson in laws,
and three and one half great granddaughters.
Nanny, may you rest in peace.
