

Victor James Boyce, Jr., of Austin died Saturday, October 28, 2006. He was born June 8, 1936 in Norfolk, Virginia, to Victor James and Aurilla Clementine Bowden Boyce. Jim grew up and attended schools in the Norfolk area before moving to Texas. He lived in Houston during the 1970s, where he was employed by Weingarten Realty. In the early 1980s, he relocated to the Austin area, where he worked as an accessibility specialist first for the Texas General Services Commission and later for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. After retiring as a state employee in July 1998, Jim continued to pursue his advocacy for improved access for the disabled as a Registered Accessibility Specialist with Accessology, Inc., where he served as vice-president for codes and standards. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; by Herbert Wayne Guillory, his life-partner of more than 25 years and the love of his life; and by loyal and beloved canine friends Shiloh, Sadie, and Smiley. He is survived by two sons, Stephen James Boyce of Richmond, Virginia, and David Bowden Boyce of Ashburn, Virginia; by his sister, Jo Vanda Boyce Reiter of Bowie, Maryland; by three grandchildren and five nieces and nephews; and by many friends from his more than 40 years in Houston, Wimberley, and Austin Texas. He was a kind and beautiful man and his family and many friends will miss him.
