Victoria Maria Olvera

Victoria Maria Olvera passed away at the age of 90 on June 3, 2021, in Austin, Texas. Victoria was born December 23, 1930, in Vinces, Ecuador. At the age of 26 she and her daughter Josefina Pincay Olvera, (Pina) moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where Victoria began working in the Larrea Ayala home as a nanny and housekeeper. She moved to Clear Lake, Texas, in the 1970s to continue to care for the family and subsequently to care for three generations of Larrea children. She became a part of the Larrea family, with which she shared her loyalty, dedication, and love. Victoria was known for her strength, joyful spirit and boundless energy. She was loved by all who knew her and maintained deep and lasting friendships.

She taught us the importance of being with someone in “las buenas y las malas”, in the good times and the bad times. Her friendships were life-long and she knew the importance of just being present with someone.

Victoria loved to cook and made everyone's favorite, arroz con pollo and empanadas, among many of her dishes. Victoria was a cancer survivor and a lover of animals. She had an affinity to assist those in need, both human and animal. Near the end of her life, stray cats wandered to the back of her patio daily where she greeted them each morning with food and attention.

She held an unwavering faith in God throughout her life, and she always reminded those she cared for to stay positive and “si se puede”.She truly gave us the best of her, and her commitment to family and friends were an example to us all. She will be greatly missed.

Victoria is preceded by her daughter, Pina, and by Maurice Larrea. She is survived by a large Larrea family and a network of friends in Clear Lake who love her dearly and will remember her with happiness.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 6, 2021 at 11 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real Houston, TX 77062. The Mass will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. The link for the livestream will be posted here closer to the date.

Victoria Maria Olvera falleció a los 90 años de edad el 3 de junio de 2021 en Austin, Texas. Victoria nació el 23 de diciembre de 1930 en Vinces, Ecuador. A los 26 años, ella y su hija Josefina (Pina), se mudaron a Guayaquil, Ecuador, donde Victoria empezó a trabajar como niñera y ama de llaves para la familia Larrea Ayala. Se mudó a Clear Lake, Texas en los años 70s para continuar con el cuidado de la familia y posteriormente cuidar a 3 generaciones de la familia Larrea.

Victoria se convirtió en parte de la familia Larrea, con quienes compartió su lealtad, dedicación y su amor. Fue conocida por su fortaleza, su espirito jovial y su inagotable energía. Fue amada por todos los que la conocieron y mantuvieron una amistad duradera con ella.

Ella nos enseñó la importancia de estar con alguien “en las buenas y en las malas”. Sus amistades fueron duraderas y ella sabía la importancia de estar presente para los demás.

Victoria amaba cocinar y entre sus muchos platos, disfrutaba preparar el favorito de todos, su arroz con pollo y empanadas.

Victoria fue una sobreviviente del cáncer y amante de los animales. Tenía una predilección por ayudar a quien lo necesitara, tanto humanos como animales. Llegando al final de sus días, muchos gatos callejeros se acercaban a su patio diariamente, donde ella los recibía cada mañana con comida y atención.

Tuvo una inquebrantable fe en Dios a lo largo de su vida y siempre le recordaba a las personas a su alrededor que se mantuvieran positivas con su frase “si se puede”. Verdaderamente nos entregó lo mejor de ella. Su compromiso con la familia y amigos fue un ejemplo a seguir para todos nosotros. Será extrañada inmensamente.

Victoria es precedida por su hija Pina y por Maurice Larrea. Deja atrás a muchas generaciones de la familia Larrea y a una red de amigos en Clear Lake que la quieren profundamente y que la recordaran con alegría.
