

When Jack was small, his family moved to Mt. Calm, Texas. He graduated from school as class valedictorian at age sixteen. When he turned 18, he followed his brothers into the military. He served three years in the United States Air Force, fourteen months of that time on Guam. After his honorable discharge he returned to Texas to attend Baylor University where he obtained a BBA in accounting. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. In 2011, Jack received his 50-year certificate from the State Society of CPAs.
On June 5, 1954 he married Joanna Goodloe of Mt. Calm, Texas and raised two daughters. The family lived in Temple, Waco, Killeen, and made Austin, TX their home.
Jack began his accounting practice in Killeen, Texas. There he was active in civic affairs including the Killeen Rotary Club as a charter member and serving as its second president. He was also president of the Bell County Baylor Club and coached little league baseball.
In 1972 Jack moved the family to Austin, Texas. He worked for state agencies for a number of years and then returned to his own private accounting practice. He raised brangus cattle with his brother, Ron.
Jack and Joanna, his wife of 61 years, were members of First Baptist Church of Austin, Texas and participated fully in the Concordance Class where he served as class treasurer. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Jack and his family recently lost his brother, Hollis Ferrell and his sister, Martha Ferrell Neilson.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joanna, daughter Audrey and her children Shirley and Clayton, daughter Mary Ellen Burns and son-in-law Les Burns, and their children, Eleanor and Clara. He is also survived by sister, LaVona Vardeman, brother Ron, sister-in-law Mary Sue Goodloe of Las Vegas, Nevada, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by the Reverend Dr. Doug Keenan of First Baptist Church of Austin at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 29, 2015. The family will receive guests one hour before the services. After the service, burial is to follow at Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Boulevard.
