William “Bill” Henry Salter age 76 passed away of natural causes on January 9, 2022.
Bill was born September 26, 1945 in Texas. He attended grade school in Trinity, Texas where he was an outstanding athlete. Bill joined the Army in 1963 at the age of 18 and was deployed to Vietnam. He served multiple years and was honorably discharged.
Bill held a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. He spent more than 30+ years working in the law enforcement field serving communities all over the state of Texas such as Houston, Buffalo, Salado, Liberty Hill and more.
Bill loved sports and was an avid golfer. He spent several years coaching and mentoring young men in basketball and baseball.
Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly Whigham Salter; stepson, Judson Whigham and wife Claire Morrisey Whigham and their two children Jack & June Whigham; sister, Nell (Bubba) Thompson; son, Timothy Blair Salter; granddaughter, Presley Elizabeth Salter; son, Scott Martin Salter and his wife Monica Salter; grandson, William James Salter and granddaughter, Charlotte Eloise Salter.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, sister, Bettye Charles Perez and brothers, John Bruce Salter and Thomas (Tony) Salter.
A visitation will take place on January 29 from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. .
