Born in Austin, Texas, on July 11, 1947, Willie lived a life of service, faith, and dedication. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Round Rock pond, beginning his lifelong journey of faith. A man of humility and strength, he was known for his sharp style, his disciplined spirit, and his unwavering love for his family.
Willie proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he dedicated himself with honor through multiple wars and assignments. His service extended beyond the military he lived each day with integrity, providing guidance, love, and encouragement to all who were blessed to know him. His church service included ushering and serving as a trustee at Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a devoted sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Houston Astros. Above all, he treasured time with his daughter, Tuesday, who will always be remembered as “daddy’s little girl.”
Willie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth E. Hurd, and his son, Willie J. Hurd Jr. He is now reunited with them in God’s eternal care. Together, he and Ruth built a foundation of love, faith, and family that will continue for generations.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Tuesday (husband Stephen); his grandchildren, Nefta O. Fonseca Jr. (Austin, TX), DeShawn Hurd (Germany), Julian Alessandro (Germany), Naomi Wang (Germany), Tristan Hurd (Austin, TX), Pyeper Hurd (Solon Iowa), and Riley Hurd (Solon Iowa); along with many extended family members and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
