Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on October 22, 1942, Elaine was the daughter of Thomas and Augusta; following her father’s death when she was only five, she was raised solely by her mother, Augusta, whose love and strength guided her through a challenging upbringing. She was a proud and cherished member of the Galm family, a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In her early years, Elaine met her charming husband, Kenneth, on a blind date. Their love grew into a 63-year marriage, filled with happiness and harmony. Together, they raised three children: Lisa, Douglas, and Thomas, to whom Elaine was a constant source of support and devotion. Her unwavering love for her family was evident in every part of her life, and she took great pride in watching her children and grandchildren flourish.
Elaine had a long and fulfilling career in Human Resources at Doubleday in Garden City, NY. Her coworkers knew her for her hard work, integrity, and the resilient spirit she brought to her professional life. Outside of work, Elaine was a woman of many passions. She enjoyed traveling and exploring the world’s beautiful sceneries, playing mahjong, and solving crossword puzzles. She was also an avid reader and found great joy in watching her favorite show, Law and Order, from the comfort of her recliner. Elaine’s love for the playful antics of Bugs Bunny stayed with her throughout her life, bringing a sense of fun to her everyday moments.
Elaine had a passion for collecting Hummels, watches, and Swarovski crystals, which added to the warmth and joy she radiated. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Club, where she made many lifelong friends and participated in activities that brought laughter and happiness into her life. Above all else, Elaine treasured her family. She was a doting grandmother to Desiree, Sydney, Max, Jack, Abby, Mia, Christopher, Lia, and Ellie, and a great-grandmother to Luke and Lacey. As an only child, she deeply valued the love and connection she shared with her extended family, including nieces and nephews Karl and Bert, and her sister-in-law Arelene.
Elaine’s passing leaves a profound void, but her legacy of love, joy, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be missed by her devoted husband, Kenneth, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her extended family.
Elaine will forever be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
