Helene, a proud and lifelong Brooklynite, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she carried her city’s strength, warmth, and spirit with her throughout her life.
After graduating high school, Helene married her high school sweetheart, Stan, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and devotion for 69 years. During the Korean War, she supported Stan while he served in the United States Marine Corps, and together they lived at Camp Lejeune. Following his service, they returned to New York and eventually settled in Centereach, Long Island, where they built a home and raised their four sons.
Helene was a dedicated high school administrator for the Three Village School District in New York. She was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others. She found great meaning in supporting students and was admired for her resilience and compassion.
She had a joy for shopping and loved getting out and about in search of the perfect find. Helene also enjoyed playing Mahjong, a game that brought her both happiness and connection with others. She adored her beloved pets, Smokey and Snowy, whom she loved to cuddle and care for deeply.
Helene was the heart of her family—a loving wife, devoted mother, and a deeply cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. She found her greatest joy in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always offering love, guidance, and unwavering support. She was also a loyal and lifelong friend to many, forming bonds that endured across decades.
In their later years, Helene and Stan enjoyed a decade of retirement in Florida before returning to the Northeast to be closer to their growing family. Being near her loved ones brought her immense happiness and comfort.
Helene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mark (Linda) Raskin, Alan Raskin, Barry (Pam) Raskin, and Glenn (Aileen) Raskin. She was a cherished grandmother to Jonathan (Erin), Andrew (Colleen), Kyle (Katie), Kathleen (Max), Danielle (Joe), Jessica (Spencer), Craig (Jill), Sarah, Emma, and Matthew, and a proud great-grandmother to Olivia, Adalynn, Meara, Benjamin, Jack, Amelia, Arlo, Lulu, Carter, Henry, and Olive.
