He was born November 6, 1956, the youngest of four children born to the late James & Rose Evans. He attended and graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in Queens New York.
Early on, he developed a love for food which would later spark a passion for cooking. In 1975, while working at an eatery in Manhattan, he met Renee Smith. They married later that year. A few years later, they relocated to the Washington DC metropolitan area. They had two lovely daughters Renice Renee in 1982 and Maureen in 1986. As a young father he was very attentive to his daughters and they cherished him.
Most of his career life was spent doing what he loved most “cooking”. Although he worked in different capacities in the cooking industry, he held the position of a Sou Chef for many years at the popular Kalorama Kafe; which was one of the first vegan restaurants in the early 80’s located in the Adams Morgan area of Washington DC. Maurice was self taught and gifited in his ability to take ordinary food and turn it into a gourmet meal. He was known by many for his culinary skills and was in pursuit of his life long dream to become a certified chef when he passed away unexpectedly.
He leaves to mourn his daughters Renice Renee Evans, Elkridge Maryland, Maureen Evans-Arthurs Columbia Maryland, son in law Jamie Todd Arthurs, siblings Roland T. Evans, Denise Reid and, Ronald Evans, brother in law Richard Reed, sister in law Evelyn Evans, favorite nephew Richard Reed Jr (BooBoo) and niece Yolanda Reed (YoYo), two grandsons: Gabriel Isaiah Gray and Noah Ethan Riley Arthurs, along with a host of relatives and friends
