Hey Dad...  It will soon be one year and this website will be removed from the internet.  Since Memorial Day, one year from when you entered the hospital, I have been re-living every moment.  It's still surreal, and although I'm coping, I can't get the thoughts or images out of my head.  I'm continueing to pursue what you've told me to, and I hope that God provides the strength and wisdom to make it come to fruition.  I need to write this once and for all:  "I'm sorry".  I know I failed you, and I will continue to try to make it right.  Jennifer still cries for you, as do I.  She will always be your princess, and I will love you... always. God Bless you and all of us.

Hey Dad... Tommorrow will be 9 months and yet it feels like it was yesterday.  The pain, the emptiness continues.  Please know tht I understand everything and promise to take your lessons with me.  The shelves in Jenn's room adorned with your handiwork....  I know that was a sign.  The message on the koala bear stuffed animal you gave Jenn... I know that was a bigger sign, since I didn't "get the message" from your shelf "work".  I made the call, Dad.  I know that's what you'e been waiting for me to do.  Keep watching, protecting us, and leading me where I need to go and continue... and next time, try not to break anything!!!!  Love you always, Joanne

Hey Dad!  The crazy holiday season is over and it was our first one without you physically here with us, sitting in a chair, or sleeping on the couch (i know, i know - just resting your eyes!) I know that the angel of lights in my front window were a sign from you. Dad it's so hard.  I just want to hear your voice out loud, not just in my head, and I want to feel you hug me just once more. Your passing has taught me many things, and promise you and myself that I will live my life as it is intended.  Hard lessons, hard decisions, but I know you will help guide me. Dad, yeserday I asked for just a hint of orange and pink in the sky - I needed to feel you around me physically - not just in my thoughts and heart.  This morning, driving over the Throgs Neck Bridge, just as the sun rose, the entire sky surrounding the bridge was full of clouds in pink and orange.  It felt like one giant hug from you.  Thank you for hearing me, it helps me to know that you can.  But it still doesn't help that you're no longer here on Earth.  I miss you, but know you are always with me. And Jennifer always talks about you and how you called her your "princess".  Love you, always.... Joanne

Your birthday is in two days, and we will be gathering as a family to celebrate one of your grandchildren's graduation.  And in our hearts, we will be celebrating your life.  Happy Birthday Dad!  Jenn and I will send you another balloon to help you celebrate. Hope you didn't mind all the bubbles the other day! Love you, always.

As children, we first learn our ABC’s, then we learn that if letters are put side by side, they can form words.  We are first taught the simplest words – those with few letters, those that we can relate to.  How taking just 2 letters: D & A, we can write our father’s name:  DAD.    Short, simple, easy to remember, hard to forget.  There are  few other words that don’t take up much space on a page,  yet mean so much.

He was in the hospital for almost three weeks, and in retrospect, WE needed that time, HE needed that time, to make sure that we had learned from him everything God had intended DAD to teach us.  

Growing up, our Dad taught us many things.  He taught us to fish – or at least try to catch fish!  He taught us how to work on our own cars. He taught us to work hard to support ourselves and our families. He taught us to love.  He taught us to always do for others. He taught us to be un-materialistic – that the most important things we could receive are not found under a Christmas tree or in an Easter basket.  That what is most important are the things that cannot be wrapped in pretty paper and garnished with a big bow on top.

Throughout his life on Earth, he continuously sought peace and tranquility among us.  Whether it be within our own family, or among neighbors.  (for some reason there was always at least one neighbor that didn’t like us kids playing kickball in the street and using their car as a target, and some especially didn’t like Larry’s bb gun either!)

As time grew closer for him to leave us, the funny, wonderful memories of his almost 88 years surfaced and as a family we relished in the stories – some that were new to us, others – ones that we’ve heard many times before.  Our last hours with him were filled with tears, laughter, peace and tranquility, and the realization of all that he was teaching us as children, teenagers, and adults.  There wasn’t a person in that hospital room during his last moments that didn’t understand what Dad --- D..A..D was all about.   

Short, simple, easy to remember, hard to forget.

It's been almost 2 months and my heart is torn more than imagineable.  I miss you Dad.  Thank you for watching over us all.  The pink/orange lights are spectacular.  Jennifer speaks to her Pop-Pop every night - but you already know that !
