Zita C. Murano, known affectionately as the heart of her family and a cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024. She graced this world for 64 years and spent her final days surrounded by family members, given and chosen.
Zita is survived by her devoted daughter, Dana and son-in-law, Dan; the apple of her eye grandson Cameron; her former husband of over 20 years, John; sister Chantal; and numerous close friends who also mourn her passing. She also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, and loved ones from the Murano, Williams, and Scofield families, leaving behind a legacy of love and unity.
Zita was a beacon of warmth and kindness, her spirit radiating joy and compassion wherever she went. While she found solace in the tranquility of the beach, collecting seashells that held memories of salty air and sandy shores, Zita was equally at home amidst the hustle and bustle of social gatherings. She thrived on the energy of lively conversations and shared laughter, her presence lighting up any room she entered. She also embraced the rhythm of the gym, where she not only strengthened her body but also nurtured lasting friendships. She also fostered connections with many people through mutual love of books, and engaging in lively book club conversations.
Zita adored her home on Long Island, and many of her passions stemmed from enjoying all the perks of being a New Yorker. She passionately cheered on the Yankees, and frequented Billy Joel concerts at the Garden. Taking her beloved "grandpuppy" Ryder for walks at Argyle park was one of her favorite pastimes, and she also loved long walks on the beach, sometimes even all the way down to the lighthouse or Fire Island. You could always count on her knowing the band schedules for beach concerts, and she was often found wherever there was live music playing, with a cold drink in hand; she was happiest when her feet were in the sand.
Zita's generosity knew no bounds, and her genuine interest in others endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be missed by all that knew her, and was a pillar of support, a shoulder to lean on, and a beacon of hope for those in need.
While we mourn Zita's physical absence, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched with her boundless love and unwavering kindness. May her memory continue to inspire us to live our lives with the same passion, love, and grace that she exemplified.
In honor of Zita's memory, the family kindly requests donations to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation to help advance cancer research.
