Margie Lillian Murray passed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, May 20, 2012 just four days after her 95th birthday. She entered eternity holding hands with her loving daughter Estelle Tucker Anderson and her son-in-law, James Anderson.
Margie Murray was born May 16, 1917 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Hershel and Edna Barber of Shamrock, Texas. She lived over 55 years in Shafter, California with her beloved husband, Randolph Murray. During the last 25 years of her life she was cared for by her son, Harold Taber, in her home in Shafter for approximately seven years. When additional care was required she was moved to the state of Washington where her daughter Estelle and her son-in-law, Jim Anderson cared for her until her death.
Margie lived a full life. She always said, “I was born in a hurricane and I’ve been in one ever since.” She had a remarkable sense of humor and keen memory for details. Her beautiful smile will be missed by all her many friends and family members. She worked as a farm laborer and was known to pick up to 300 pounds of cotton in one day. She also worked in the shipyards during World War II as a cook and other jobs too many to mention. When Margie turned 50 she completed her cosmetology license course and opened her own beauty shop called, “The Magic Mirror.” She worked there until she retired.
Margie faithfully served the Lord for over 80 years and was a member of the Assembly of God Church for many years. She witnessed to many people and brought them into a relationship with the Lord Jesus. She volunteered many hours at local retirement homes and hospitals and never refused a friend or stranger in need of prayer.
Margie loved to quilt and made many quilts for each of her family members for them to cherish. She loved to sing and sang in the church choir for many years. She loved to travel and visit her family and friends and made the best cobblers ever.
She is survived by her daughter Estelle Tucker Anderson, her husband Jim Anderson and by her son, Harold Taber. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 17 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. Margie is the last of her siblings to pass on.
A memorial service for all her friends and relatives will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shafter First Assembly of God, 150 Elm Street, Shafter with Pastor Toy performing the service. A graveside service will follow immediately at Shafter Cemetery. Please call Pastor Toy at 323-5961 for further information.
