

On April 6, 2012, John "Jack" H. Dieter, Jr., age 76, passed away one year after being diagnosed with Mesothelioma. John grew up in Overlea and graduated from Kenwood High School in 1954. John served newspapers, worked at the Overlea bowling alley and movie theater, Pappas Food Market in Hamilton and the Pulaski drive-in. At age 20 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam and retired after 20 years, after which he worked at Social Security for 22 years. John was a longtime member of the VFW & AL. John coached football, served as a referee and umpire for Parkville Rec Centers and for 10 years was the Secretary for Scout Troop 146 at Epiphany Lutheran Church. John was a volunteer member of the equipment crew for the Marching Ravens Band. An avid sports enthusiast, John played softball while in the Marine Corps, and after retiring became a member of the Baltimore Road Runners, running several marathons, until he developed knee problems. Since 1983 John was very proud to be President of the Perring Golf Association. John is the beloved husband of Marion Jane Dieter (nee Gauer); devoted father of Jill Marie Dieter and John H. Dieter, III; dear brother of Charles H. and Bernard W. Dieter and wife Marlene, Rosemary Deal and the late Nancy E. Baker; loving grandfather of Jacob S. Dieter; nephew of Bertha Przybylski. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
