

Gordon was born and raised in the Wetaskawin area where he worked on the farm and railway as a brakeman. Gordon married Alma Kurt on July 24, 1937. He and Alma were owners of the Red and White store located in South Edmonton in 1940. Around 1947, Gordon and Alma moved to a farm just West of Barrhead, where he also worked as a parts man at Stephani Motors. Eventually they moved into Barrhead where they resided with their dog and abundance of trees, flowers, and birds. For the last several years, Gordon resided at Shepherd’s Care and the Barrhead Continuing Care Centre. Gordon was a loving and devoted uncle, but was viewed as a father and grandfather by many.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Alma of 74 years. Other caring, loving and concerned family members include; nieces, Brenda Kupsch (George Czech), Lorna (Karl) Arnemann, and Marlene Kurt; sister-in-law, Arlene Elke; niece, Colleen (George) McLaren; nephews, Doug Elke and Ronald Kurt; great-nieces, Jennifer (Lyall) Collins, Tennille Kupsch, Debbie (Ken) George, Aurelie (Shannon) Reeve; great-nephews, Jonathan Kupsch and Karl (Sheryl) Arnemann; and numerous great-great nieces, great-great nephews and friends. Gordon is predeceased by his parents; and four brothers, Edwin and Reginald Kirstein, Herbert and Stanley Elke. A Funeral Service for Gordon Kirstein will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Ree officiating. Donations in memory of Gordon are gratefully accepted to St. John’s Lutheran Church or a Charity of One’s Choice.
