John (Johnnie) Tiemstra passed away peacefully on March 2nd 2026, at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre after several years of declining health battling diabetes, heart surgeries and a stroke. He finally succumbed to liver cancer.
He was born on November 20th 1949 in Edmonton, Alberta and adopted by Gerben and Tryntje Tiemstra , their only and long awaited child.
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 53 7/8 years Dorothy Anne; his children Suzanne and Paul and sole grandchild Ayden.
John had amazing friends that he considered family (Tomalty, Adair, Reed, Horner, Pon, Wilkins, Rockwell). John had a vast network of friends from his numerous volunteer endeavors: Kinsmen, Elks, Shriners, and his greatest loves; the Aircadets and Legion. Always taking the time to build a deck, roof a summer cabin, drywall a house, fix fences, mow the field of honor, and snow blow whole blocks.
His working life was a wonderfully eclectic tale. Trying his hand at being the IGA produce manager, an ambulance driver, hospital housekeeper, Swan Hills oil patch operator, construction company owner, and finally trained to be a construction and welding teacher in jr/sr high.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care given to John by Dr.s DeWall, Krantz and Bernes, George & Katherine in physio, and all the nursing staffs of the numerous hospital visits since 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
