In the heart of Memphis, there lived a man named Andy Newborn, sometimes referred to as “Superman” by family and friends. At 73, Andy’s life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
Andy’s story was not one of otherworldly powers or alien heritage. Instead, it was a tale of unwavering love, steadfast “Andy” logic and the kind of integrity that made him a hero in the eyes of those who knew him. He cherished his family above all, carrying the memory of his youngest son, Marc or “Little Man” that Andy affectionately called him, like a beacon that guided him through life’s latest moments.
His journey was marked by love found and lost, with the passing of his beloved Dana and later, Dinki, leaving imprints on his heart that time could never erase. Yet, like the Man of Steel, Andy faced each challenge his way, a unique perspective on life that sometimes those around him questioned or challenged.
Andy’s legacy was not built on the extraordinary feats of strength or speed, but on the moments created with those he loved. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry on the spark of Andy’s spirit, a flame that will burn brightly for generations to come.
The people of Memphis and surrounding areas often speak of Andy’s work ethic, how customers leave his presence feeling valued and heard. His reputation was built not only on hard work but on the consistent, honest work that earned him the trust and admiration of many.
A true testament to Andy’s indomitable will was his ability to withstand and overcome multiple conditions and illnesses. But even heroes have their kryptonite. For Andy, it was a lung disease known as IPF, an adversary that proved to be as relentless as any supervillain.
Andy passed away last night, March 18, 2024. Throughout the city, as well as in Sweden, his children, grandchildren, as well as many other loved ones, share memories of him. Charlie, being both Andy's caregiver and son, spoke of the many days and nights spent beside him, an enduring bond that showed the essence of family. Andy was a man who was much more than he ever gave himself credit for. He was a symbol of strength and a reminder that true heroism comes from love and courage.
The story of Andy Newborn, Superman, will live on in the hearts of many, inspiring all of us to face our battles with courage, to love deeply, and to live with the logic and integrity of heroes.
In the end, Andy’s legacy was not measured by the foes he faced but by the lives he touched, a legacy that would continue to soar high above in the heavens, as timeless and enduring as Superman’s flight across the sky.
–Written with much love, already missing you, your daughter, Elizabeth
In loving memory of Andy, a cherished and unique spirit, whose life’s journey has come to a rest. Andy’s legacy is carried on by his twin brother Randy, his devoted children, his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that loved him dearly, along with a multitude of friends and family who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Andy’s story began with his parents, Raymond Earl and Vadar Newborn, in Waukegan, Illinois and was enriched by the bonds with his brothers, Kenneth and Buddy who passed before him.
Andy’s departure from this world is not marked by the somber tones of a typical farewell. True to his one-of-a-kind nature, Andy will be cremated and laid to rest with his beloved, Dana. A graveside service will honor his memory, followed by a celebration of life in April, reflecting the vibrancy with which he lived. The details will be shared once finalized, as we prepare to bid him a heartfelt adieu.
Andy’s absence leaves a void, but his spirit remains an indelible imprint on the hearts of those he leaves behind. May his memory be a beacon of joy and resilience, guiding us as we navigate the path ahead without him.
