On March 29th 2024 , Billie Jewel Davis, one of God's sweetest Angels to ever walk this earth, was called home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, my Daddy who she loved so much and had missed terribly for almost 18 years, two children, two grandchildren, other family and best friends.
Born January 16, 1925, she lived to be 99 yrs., 2 months and 13 days. She had hoped to make it to 100.
At the age of 11 she was orphaned and passed from relative to relative, never having much stability or much of anything in her life. It never made her bitter.
At age 16 the Government offered a program in which they taught you to sew and soon my mama met her life long best friend....her sewing machine. They were together everyday creating, mending or altering until she could no longer see well enough to sew. She was amazing with that machine and created many beautiful items.
A few years later she met this dashing young man , George Davis, that was set up on a blind date with her roommate. But George ditched the roommate to finish the date with my mom. Six weeks later, the lovestruck soldier went AWOL to marry that cute redhead and they stayed married 61 years until he passed away in August 2006. She had found love in her young life and continued to love him and miss him with all of her heart.
They had a great love for each other that anchored them to withstand many hardships that were to come. They each placed their faith in Jesus Christ and then began a life anchored by an even greater, steadfast love. Lives devoted to the LORD. Mama used her sewing talent the Lord had blessed her with as a Ministry to and through the Church. all the while making just about every stitch of clothes we wore. I saw more of my mama's back at the sewing machine than I did her face , but we three girls always had pretty clothes. She made custom drapes and retired from Sears as a seamstress, but continued to sew for people.
Mama was a great cook. Lots of good homemade meals because Daddy ate on the road and wanted home cooking when he was home. Daddy being on the road to make a living for us was a hard life for mama. She did a great job being mama & daddy. She never complained although lonely at times with him gone.
Mama taught us to "accept people as they were and love them to where they ought to be".
She taught us about forgiving as Jesus forgave us, although I didn't always want too!
She taught us to pray by living it out in her daily life. You always knew... mama was praying for you.
God's Word had a very special place in her life as well. The font may have to be 42 but we would get it as big as we could so she could read her Bible every day.
Mama loved Jesus and she loved you, if you gave her the chance.
She was one in a Million and she will be loved and missed everyday until Jesus comes back or takes us home. She now is whole and well. She is up out of that bed and singing praises to Christ the King!
We love you mama, with all our hearts. Thank you for your life you invested in your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those still here looking forward to joining her are sister, Jean (Larry) Hasse, daughter, Jamie (Roger) Sawyer, daughter, Patricia (Lee) Raines, 6 grandchildren, 12 Great grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
