

Charles Roger Newell, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 24, 2015 after a long battle with cardiac issues and cardiovascular dementia. He was born on September 10, 1931 to Burris and Alva Harris Newell in Adamsville, Tennessee. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1954 on the U.S.S. Currier DE-700 during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the railroad as a lineman. The majority of his career was spent as a salesman in the furniture and floor covering business. He retired from Bobby’s Carpets at the age of 79. He was a charter member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and a member at Bartlett Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and all four of his siblings, Rubye Dickey, Bob Newell, Shelby Poole and George “Sonny” Newell, also his first wife, Dorthea McBride Newell. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Scott Newell, his daughter Debbie (Kelly) Jones and his granddaughter Chelsea Jones. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who have been forever changed by the impact he had on their lives, and not to mention his beloved dog Bandit. The family thanks Dr. Gordon Kraus, Dr. Michael McDonald, Gene Jones and Marquita Collins for their kindness and care. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 29th from 11-1pm with the funeral starting at 1pm at Bartlett Baptist Church, 3465 Kirby Whitten, Bartlett, TN. 38135. The burial will follow at Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd.
