Derry is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 62 years, Edith Cook, his sons, Andy, Curtis, and Derry Cook Jr., and his precious daughters-in-law, Shannon and Laura. He was a beloved grandfather to Caroline, Davis, Derry Cook III, and Avery. Derry's loss will also be deeply felt by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Cook, and his nephews, Cannon and Drew Cook. He will also be missed by his nephew Troy Lucas (wife Katherine and children Brooke, Morgan and Kati).
Derry now joins those who preceded him in death: his father, Eldred Cook; his mother, Dorothy Cook; his brother, Lewis Cook, and his sister, June Lucas.
He graduated from Columbia Military Academy and then joined the Marine Reserves. After four years in the Marine Reserves, he mastered the welding trade and became a member of the Steamfitter Local Union and was employed for a majority of his life at Dupont as a pipefitter. Derry was a perfectionist at heart that routinely reminded his sons that if you are going to do something, then you need to do it right. Known for his quiet demeanor, he believed in hard work, discipline, honesty and integrity and his life was a shining example for his three sons and everyone that knew him.
Derry loved listening to the music of Patsy Cline, Charlie Rich, Charlie Pride, Hank Williams, and Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed fishing for much of his life and was huge fan of sprint car races at Riverside Motor Speedway. He sacrificed and worked hard to provide his sons with the absolute best education and opportunities to pursue their dreams. Derry's influence will continue to resonate in the lives of those he touched.
The Cook family invites you to join them for a visitation on June 27, 2025, at 9 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM, both held at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens at 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
Let us come together to celebrate the life of Derry Cook, recount fond memories, and pay our last respects to a man beloved by so many.
